“If you look closely there is a dance in every tree, a song within every grassy field, and a story behind each ocean wave ~ countless gestures and poses within nature’s landscape; ever-changing yet timeless – inspiring me to capture and paint.”    Jessica Pisano

Raised on the Island of Martha’s Vineyard, Jessica Pisano grew up surrounded by breathtaking landscapes – a natural environment that both inspired and nurtured her artistic soul.
After pursuing her interest in art at Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon, she received a BA in Fine Arts as well as a Masters in Arts Administration from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.  Pisano furthered her studies, traveling to Italy to attend the Lorenzo De Medici School in Florence where she learned the art of using gold leaf and glazing. This experience gave birth to Jessica Pisano’s signature style.
Since 1999, she has had numerous shows and her work is widely collected in both private and public collections all over the world.  For many successful years she owned the Belushi Pisano Gallery located on Martha’s Vineyard.  Previously Newbury Fine Arts had a second seasonal location in Nevin Square, Edgartown and with its deep roots in “the Vineyard” it is most serendipitous to now include Jessica Pisano in the gallery’s artist family.

The artistic experience and process explained by the artist:

I start my paintings by documenting nature as I see it.  I regularly get out and sketch landscapes to use as a reference for creating a painting.  I also take my camera with me wherever I go – a tool that enables me to instantly capture what inspires me.

I’m most interested in the concept of time and how objects within nature weather as they age.  My main focus in my work is to establish a subtle patina that is symbolic to the notion of time.  To achieve this I use of acrylic, oil, silver and gold leaf as well as various textural materials so that the finished painting has a beautiful patina finish. I paint on Baltic birch panels, and complete the work with a UV protective varnish.
