Artist Statement
Art in any form whether it is dance, music, or painting has always been my inspiration in life. In my work, I strive to reveal true beauty, the beauty which nature has intended us to see. I strive to represent the natural atmosphere of beauty in objects and places.
I am an oil painter who has always had great respect for the old masters of tradition. My admiration of traditional paintings extends to the realism in my work today. My still lives are about poetry and symbolism.
Inspired by the elegance of the ballet, as dancers grace the stage, their movement and soulfulness awakens my passion to translate this on to my canvas, evoke dignity and elegance. This allows me to bring to life the feeling, the dream and the soul of the dancer, to connect you to the absent dancer.
I believe that my paintings possess mystery and some fantasy to please the eye and not to bore the viewer. What I am trying to achieve in my painting is to create a mood to express deep intense feelings and romanticism to touch human emotion.

The mystery and beauty of the ballet has permeated Susan Gheyssari’s profound images, which seem to radiate with mystery. Gheyssari masters the magic of conveying the aura of ballet through her floating costumes. Never before has a contemporary painter combined an uplifting sensory delight of the performing arts with such brilliant studio painting.
As a Boston based artist, Gheyssari has developed an intimate friendship with The Boston Ballet. Her quest has been to pay homage to the both the ballet dancers and the ballets themselves. Note her “Black Swan”, “Blue Bird” or “Doll Costume Nutcracker” and like a novella, we the observer fill her delicate composition with our imagination.
Susan Gheyssari personally is a huge supporter of the Boston Ballet and currently enjoys being a member of the prestigious Boston Ballet’s Board Of Overseers.
Over the past few years, Gheyssari has channeled the spirit of Boston Ballet’s principal dancer Misa Kuranaga. Notably capturing Kuranaga in her magnificent performances as Odette/Odile in Swan Lake and the Sugar Plum Fairy and Snow Queen in The Nutcracker.
In 2019, the artist plans on working with ballerina, Florimond Lorieux , the Ballet de L’Opera de Paris and principle dancer, Anais Chalendard, the Boston Ballet.
Like, Marc Chagall, Gheyssari finds inspiration in the make-believe of costume and character illuminated through Ballet. Degas is also a significant inspiration.
NFA is thrilled to announce that Susan Gheyssari’s paintings are now on exhibit at our Boston gallery.
